Finance Trustee role at Cavell Nurses' Trust

Are you keen to bring your financial expertise to our board to help our nation’s nursing and midwifery family?

Cavell Nurses’ Trust is looking for a Finance focused Trustee who recognises this unrivalled opportunity to support nurses, midwives and health assistants facing personal or financial hardship. Nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants are:

  • twice as likely to suffer financial hardship than the average person in the UK

  • three times as likely to suffer domestic abuse

  • and 50% of them have less than £500 in an emergency.

Our ambition is to be the conduit to all the nursing and midwifery family in need, providing financial and welfare support to them directly or through partnerships with a wide network of organisations. In 2020 this need increased by 140%. We estimate long-term demand is at least four times what is currently available.

As a prospective trustee, you will be excited at the opportunity of:

  • delivering Cavell’s vision and mission

  • engaging with passionate and highly experienced colleagues on the board and executive

  • encouraging and supporting the charity to identify and drive more partnerships and funding to deliver on our ambitious strategy.

As Finance Trustee you will lead our Finance, Audit, Investment and Risk Committee (FAIR). You should have expertise and experience in at least two of these areas, and be confident to ask the right questions to provide oversight of the others. You might be someone with a background in investment and risk, and/or accounting and financial management. As Treasurer you should be able to translate charity accounts into more accessible language for others on the board and help the other members of the FAIR and Board itself to carry out their fiduciary responsibilities.

We can offer you the opportunity to be part of an exceptionally innovative and future-focused organisation deeply rooted in the service ethos and commitment of Edith Cavell.

If you are interested in a board role in a dynamic, professional and growing charity where you can add real value and diverse thinking, and see your efforts translate into tangible life changes, please apply!

Please see the role specification for more information. To apply, please send a one-page cover letter and CV (no longer than two pages) by 28th February 2022 to Stephen Harvey at Bateleur Partners stephenharvey@bateleurpartners.net.
